Teaching
The Institute of Geophysics and Meteorology of the University of Cologne teaches the two subjects "Geophysics" and "Meteorology" in full depth.
Currently, we offer the following degree programmes:
Bachelor of Science "Geophysics and Meteorology"
In the 2006/07 winter term the diploma programmes were replaced by this new Bachelor of Science. This degree programme now encompasses the hitherto seperate study courses "Geophysics" and "Meteorology".
Master of Science "Physics of the Earth and Atmosphere"
Since the 2009/10 winter term, the master programme "Physics of the Earth and Atmosphere" is offered in cooperation with the University of Bonn. This is consecutive degree programme, based on the Bachelor of Science "Geophysics and Meteorology", see above. However, graduates from other physically, geophysically, or meteorologically oriented disciplines also have the possibility to enrol in this programme.
Diploma Geophysics (no further enrolments)
The diploma programme "Geophysics" terminates in the 2014 summer term. Students of this degree programme have to be graduated by then. For more details see the regulations of expiry (Auslaufordnung). New enrolments in this programme are no longer possible since the 2006/07 winter term. Instead, we offer first-year students the Bachelor of Science "Geophysics and Meteorlogy".
Diploma Meteorology (no further enrolments)
The diploma programme "Meteorology" terminates in the 2014 summer term.
PhD studies
IGMK offers exceptionally good graduate students the possibility to do their PhD.
